2013 Lewis-Related Events

This year (2013) is the 50th anniversary of C.S. Lewis’s death. As a result of this landmark, there are many more events coming up related to Lewis. The following list is what I’m currently aware of and updates will be made as necessary to add more events or give additional details on those mentioned already below. Leave a comment if you know of others, have corrections or more information.

March 1st: C. S. Lewis Fifty Years On: What Endures? – Held at Union University in Memphis, TN (at the Stephen Olford Center) this is an event organized by the Inklings Fellowship.

March 20th: Alister Mcgrath Speaks On C.S. Lewis – This is a FREE event at Wheaton College being held at Barrows Auditorium. Dr. McGrath will share about some of his findings presented in his Lewis biography just being released the same month. (Note: the only link I could find was to the general calendar of events at Wheaton).

March 21st-23rd: Fairytales in the Age of iPads: Inklings, Imagination, and Technology – This is the annual C.S. Lewis and Inklings Conference held in conjunction with the C.S. Lewis and Inklings Society (C.S.L.I.S.). The location for this one is LeTourneau University (Longview, Texas).

March 22nd – 23rd: Looking Along the Beam: Philosophical and Theological Themes in the Inklings – Hosted and held at Houston Baptist University, this is their third annual HBU Philosophy Conference.

April 5th – 7th: A Inklings Weekend in Montreat – Also organized by the Inklings Fellowship, this is in Montreat, NC. No further details available at the moment.

April 12th: C.S. Lewis: Life, Legacy and “Light” – I’m kicking off an event in Morgantown, WV to help start a C.S. Lewis Society where I live. Special guest will be Dr. Charlie Starr who recently released a book revealing an unpublished short story by Lewis. More details to follow.

May 24th – 25th: Symposium 2013: C.S. Lewis – 50 Years After His Death – You have to travel a bit for this one, as it is in Aachen, Germany.

June 19th – 23rd: Living the Legacy: The Vision, Voice, and Vocation of C.S. Lewis – Hosted by the C.S. Lewis Foundation, this event is an Academic Roundtable at the University of San Diego in California.

July 6th – 14th: Tour of C.S. Lewis’s Oxford and Cambridge – Walk where Lewis walked in this event hosted by the C.S. Lewis Institute with talks by Walter Hooper and Dr. Michael Ward.

July 16th – 12th & July 14th – 20th: CS Lewis, Mere Christian – Another one for those who travel; this is in Oxford, England and is organized by the C.S. Lewis Foundation as part of a summer seminar.

July 14th – 19th: An Inklings Week in Oxford – The Inklings Fellowship will also be in Oxford this summer!

November 8th – 10th: The Forge of Friendship: Tolkien, Lewis, & the Creative Impulse – Another event by the C.S. Lewis Foundation. This will be in Houston, Texas, but further details have yet to be announced.
