There are so many memorable characters in The Chronicles of Narnia it seems unfair to pick just one, even when you exclude most of the main characters.

While I could obviously choose a favorite from among the key players in the Narnia stories, looking past them Puddleglum from The Silver Chair stands out in my mind. You remember him, don’t you? He’s the Marsh-wiggle who guides Jill and Eustace in their adventures to locate and rescue Prince Rilian.

But that’s not the reason millions love him…it’s his pessimistic view throughout the story that makes him enduring. But don’t forget, according to Puddleglum himself, his fellow Marsh-wiggles accuse him of wearing rose-colored glasses! Interestingly, Lewis modeled him after his real life gardener, Fred Paxford.

Tell me who your favorite character from the Narnia story is by leaving a comment below!

For our retirement we were blessed with the opportunity to build on a modest piece of land surrounded by forest. Deer graze on our lawn, and we love it. A third of the property is “untouchable” since it’s riparian–something developers hate–but we love having our very own “Puddleglum Pond.”

Can’t decide on just one right now – but is it cool that his gardener is known forever now? Somehow that seems right for someone who tends and grows things?

I have always liked Lucy. She’s the first one in her family to find Narnia, and although her siblings have a hard time believing her at the start, she stays so true to Narnia through it all. In all of the books she’s in, her love for Aslan and the Narnians is so great and she’s such a good role model for me as a follower of Christ and knowing to love His people.
