C.S. Lewis has influenced countless individuals…but do you know who affected him so much that a book by that author baptized Lewis’ imagination?

There are many authors that C.S. Lewis enjoyed from an earlier age, but one that stayed with him and had the greatest impact is a Congregational minister named George MacDonald. It was his book Phantastes, a Faerie Romance, that specifically  had the greatest influence. Lewis considered the baptism of his imagination occurred while reading it. Unspoken Sermons is another work Lewis enjoyed by him.

If you have read The Great Divorce by Lewis, you may remember a character named George MacDonald. Lewis also paid tribute to him by editing a book that is an anthology of 365 selections from his variety writings that came out in 1946.
